How to Connect Synup MCP with ChatGPT

Synup MCP integrates with ChatGPT through an OAuth connection, letting you query locations, pull reviews, analyze rankings, manage listings, and more through natural language directly inside ChatGPT. Once connected, you can prompt ChatGPT to work with your Synup account data without switching between tools.

ChatGPT connects to Synup MCP through its Create Apps feature and uses OAuth for authentication, so there's no config file editing or terminal commands involved, just a straightforward login flow.

Before You Begin

You will need:

  • An active Synup account
  • Your Synup domain URL (more on this below)
  • A ChatGPT account with access to the Connectors feature (available on Plus, Team, and Enterprise plans)

What Is My Domain URL?

Your domain URL is the base address of your Synup workspace, unique to your organization. It typically looks like:

To use it with MCP, append /mcp to the end:

To find your base URL, log in to your Synup account and check the address bar in your browser, the domain shown there, without any path after it, is your workspace URL. If you're unsure, contact your Synup account manager or reach out to Synup support.

Steps to Connect

  1. Open chatgpt.com and log in to your account
  2. Click on your profile icon in the top-right corner
  3. Go to Settings
  4. Navigate to the Apps section

  1. Under Advanced Settings, you will have to turn on the developer mode to be able to add custom connectors/apps.

  1. When you turn on Developed Mode, you will start seeing the Create App option. Click it.
  2. You can add relevant details like Icon, Name, and Description first.
  3. Next in the URL field, enter your Synup MCP endpoint (your domain with /mcp):

  1. Click Create. ChatGPT will open an OAuth authorization window

  1. Log in with your Synup credentials when prompted and approve the connection
  2. Once authorized, you'll be returned to ChatGPT and Synup will appear as an active connector

Verify the Connection

Open a new chat in ChatGPT and try one of these prompts to confirm everything is working:

Which Synup account am I connected to?

List my first 5 locations from Synup

Show my account info from Synup

If the connection is working, ChatGPT will return your actual Synup account data. If you see an error, refer to the troubleshooting section below.

What You Can Do After Setup

Once connected, you can use natural language in ChatGPT to work with your Synup data, including:

  • Listing and filtering locations
  • Pulling reviews and drafting responses
  • Checking listing status and citation health
  • Analyzing keyword rankings and Share of Voice
  • Reviewing campaign performance
  • Comparing performance across your location portfolio
  • Generating summaries and action plans

FAQs

The OAuth window opened but didn't complete. Make sure you're logging in with the credentials tied to your Synup workspace rather than a personal or unrelated account. If the authorization window closes without completing, try the flow again and check that pop-ups are not being blocked by your browser.

I don't see a Connectors option in my ChatGPT settings. The Connectors feature is available on ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Enterprise plans. If you're on a free plan, you'll need to upgrade to access this feature.

The connector shows as connected but returns no data. Try disconnecting and reconnecting through your ChatGPT settings to force a fresh OAuth token. Also verify that your Synup account has data in the areas you're querying, for example, if you're asking for reviews, confirm that reviews exist for your locations.

Can I connect multiple Synup accounts? Each ChatGPT connector maps to one Synup workspace. If you manage multiple workspaces across different domain URLs, you would need to add a separate connector for each one.

Is my data secure when using ChatGPT with Synup MCP? The connection uses OAuth, which means ChatGPT never receives your Synup password directly. Access is granted through a token that you can revoke at any time by disconnecting the connector from your ChatGPT settings or by contacting Synup support to invalidate the token on the Synup side.
