Setting up a custom domain allows you to use your own domain name when sending out emails. This helps align your email presence with your brand and improves deliverability. You can learn more about how custom domains work here.
Note: Using Custom Domains is an optional process but recommended if you’re looking to enhance the deliverability of your emails. Only Admin users of an account can verify a Custom Domain.
Before you begin setting up and authenticating your custom domain ensure:
- To set up authentication, you need to create/edit domain records with your Domain Name Service (DNS) provider. For more information about how to access domain records, please reach out to your hosting service.
To Get Started
Access Custom Domains on your dashboard by clicking Account Settings > Settings > Custom Domain.
Since this is the first domain you’re verifying, you will see the option to verify a new domain.
Note: You can verify multiple custom domains for specific requirements. Any domain you verify will be accessible from this here.
Click Verify Domain to Continue.
You will need to authenticate your custom domain DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM), and include Synup in your Sender Policy Frameworks (SPF) record.
Generate Your DKIM Key
Enter the domain name that you want to authenticate and click Generate DKIM Key. This will automatically generate a hostname and a DKIM value.
Copy the generated Host Name and DKIM value. These values will need to be entered in the DNS record of your domain.
Log into your hosting account or where your DNS records can be accessed. Go to the section where you can create and view your DNS records (usually accessible under settings or manage). If you are unsure where to find your DNS records, please contact your hosting provider for assistance. For reference, you can see how to add a DNS record on GoDaddy.
Once your domain has been verified, the affirmation displays on your dashboard.
Note: Verifying your custom domain can take an average of 6-12 Hours. You can click the Reload icon to refresh the confirmation status displayed here.
